THE LONG HAUL

FORM THE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY

For the past 30 years, DYCO has built over 200 components for diesel locomotive engines manufactured by GE Transportation. Our components are helping haul freight and people all over the world. Plus, we’ve been making spares for rail signaling and switching equipment since 2000 — reverse-engineering coils and transformers for aftermarket rebuilders. In 2007, General Railway Signaling (Now Alstom) wanted to take their internal magnetics manufacturing to an outside supplier to free up space for their growth, and several hundred part numbers were transferred to DYCO. This required significant investment in raw material, additional equipment, and direct labor. But it was an investment in our client’s success, so we worked closely with their engineers and began building the complex transformers, coils and assemblies used in many major metropolitan mass-transit systems. Our value goes beyond the price per component. We found ways to use up raw materials in their facility before independently sourcing and procuring more. We made suggestions for quality improvements and cost savings based on our knowledge of the product. In one case, we initiated a design change that saved tens of thousands of dollars in the first year alone. Alstom often had critical needs, such as during Hurricane Sandy. In that case, we supported their efforts to get tracks up and running again by cutting lead times and delivering product as much as 75% faster. We continue to work closely with Alstom on new products, working hard to bring them significant value. Alstom relies on DYCO components for Amtrak, New York City Transit, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), and Shanghai – Nanjing Metro.
